We often look at all these post-Covid businesses popping up see all the new solutions that they bring to the table. Some are good and some are questionable. In most instances, MSPs get some training from the provider of the product then start selling not knowing the full value of the solution or even scoping the wrong solution to their clients.
ITried started after the first big lockdown finding ways to bring solutions to the table for the SME and Start-up business that will not break the bank for these companies trying to make their first rand in this stressful economy. We’ve helped over 25 businesses thus far in their journeys to the world of the cloud, breaking down their old sites and rebuilding them into a new site, and assisting with complex software-related queries. A well-known South African company, saved a massive R1.2 million in electricity and hosting costs in this time due to the removal of their old legacy hardware.
Let’s walk through this client’s journey before they met with ITried. They were using their own managed service provider (MSP) to advise on where to move their services. How will they securely communicate with their servers and still comply with their policies to keep their customer databases safe? They got told to spend about R800 000 to get their servers moved to “the cloud”, which was actually just moving their current servers to a hosted data center in Johannesburg. This did not meet their brief but was their only option at the time. So they went for it.
Later that month we were in a virtual convention where this company saw what we as an MSP do and was keen to get a quote from us. We met up with the company and started their customer journey by first understanding what it is that they really require. The brief that was sent to their MSP clearly stated “get rid of legacy hardware”. Did this MSP misunderstand or were they in it for the retainer money?
Misunderstanding the customer’s need is a mistake businesses and especially corporates often do. Most times the salesperson sell what they have in their arsenal of products but don’t meet the customer’s needs 100%. They partner with businesses that can give them the most money out of selling their products, but is it worth it when you can lose your customers?
